How To JV (Even Without Your Own Product & List)
Yes, you can do a joint venture even if you don’t have your own product or your own email subscribers. (It’s even better if you’ve got your own product but it’ll still work fine even if you don’t.)
I’ve done it before in 2006, in a music related market. Not only did I earn affiliate commissions on the front end, I also got some 2nd tier commissions, even after I shut the site down! (That’s when I first saw the long term potential of affiliate marketing!)
Here’s what you do….. Find about 4 publishers in your market with slightly different products. You can easily find them in affiliate networks, forums, article directories, search engines, etc.
- Example 1: Best of European Food Experts
Italian food expert, French food expert, Spanish food expert, German food expert
- Example 2: Best of Online Gambling
Poker expert, Black Jack expert, Roulette expert, Jackpot expert
- Example 3: Best of Affiliate Marketing
PPC expert, Bum Marketing expert, Presell & Review expert, Market Research expert
They must all have an affiliate program - 2 tier would be better for you.
Join their list first, then email them telling them how much you enjoyed their content. (Be specific & always tell the truth, a good number of them will reply you.)
Explain to them that you would like to help them get more traffic & sales & they have to do is answer a few simple questions.
You position them as an expert or authority by asking each of them a few questions, such as…..
- What’s the easiest way for anyone to get started in [your niche]
- What’s the biggest challenge people face in [your niche]?
- What’s the best way to overcome that challenge?
- Can you share a little on how you got started in [your niche]?
- Can you share your 3 most important secrets of how you became so successful in [your niche]?
You also answer these questions yourself & position yourself as an expert or authority. There you go! You’ve got fresh unique content! Their answer is your content.
Now let’s call these publishers, A, B, C & D.
- Get A’s details, help sign him up for affiliate program of B, C & D
- Get B’s details, help sign him up for affiliate program of A, C & D
- Get C’s details, help sign him up for affiliate program of A, B & D
- Get D’s details, help sign him up for affiliate program of A, B & C
You also go sign up for the affiliate program of A, B, C & D. (If the affiliate program is 2-tier, you can sign up the rest of them as your 2nd tier affiliate.)
Note: People love it when you do things for them, especially when you help them save time, so offer to help them sign up.
Use the content, (the answers to the questions), compile them & add the affiliate links. Each person will have a customized version of the report.
- Your report will have the affiliate links of A, B, C & D.
- A’s report will have the affiliate links of B, C & D.
- B’s report will have the affiliate links of A, C & D.
- C’s report will have the affiliate links of A, B & D.
- D’s report will have the affiliate links of A, B & C.
All the reports will also have a link back to your blog or squeeze page! The publishers wouldn’t mind because you did all the hard work or them.
Prepare 5 emails in advance for them to copy & paste into their autoresponder just to promote the free report. Write some more promotional emails for A, B, C & D if possible.
Once A, B, C & D all promote this report, all 5 of you will see an increase in traffic, as well as affiliate sales. This will also get your name & sites out there & people will start to view you as an expert as time goes by.
That’s all to it! You can explain this idea to them or simply send them to this page so that they can have a better understanding of what you’re trying to do for them.

I like this idea a lot. Whether you have your own product or not, creating little work groups allows you to gain strong leverage in just about any market.
